LaSalle County State’s Attorney candidate Todd Martin says he doesn’t need anyone to file a lawsuit against his opponent to campaign against her. Martin says he won’t comment on the case former State’s Attorney Brian Towne filed against incumbent Karen Donnelly this week. But as for Donnelly calling it an election season stunt to tip the election for Martin, Martin says he’s campaigning on whether Donnelly is qualified. He says a malicous prosecution complaint has to be filed within a year and Towne’s deadline is August 2.
Martin says Donnelly had two years of experience as an attorney before she took office, compared to his 26 years now including work in every division of the state’s attorney’s office. He says the high profile cases she lost, including those against two elected officials, cost taxpayer money. Donnelly brought charges against Towne alleging misuse of public funds; she also charged Auditor Jody Wilkinson with helping two auditor’s office employees pad their pay.
