The man representing many Illinoisans filing lawsuits against Governor  JB Pritzker and state agencies throughout this pandemic has now filed a lawsuit of his own. Tom DeVore will face the Illinois High School Association in Montgomery County court. The Silver Lake Group Attorney filed his lawsuit against the IHSA on behalf of his student athletes Monday afternoon. The suit would apply to all minor students in similar athlete situations.  DeVore says the organization doesn’t have the authority to enforce a mask mandate while students play sports. 

 IHSA Executive Director, Craig Anderson, admits they don’t have the authority to penalize schools refusing to comply with the rules.  DeVore says  Pritzker should call for a special session for lawmakers to discuss the health guidelines for IHSA and the Illinois State Board of Education

 

 The Cubs are playing it safe in regards to the coronavirus.  Manager David Ross and five others opted not to attend yesterday’s morning workout at Wrigley Field while they await the results of Saturday’s COVID-19 tests. The club didn’t release the names of the other five individuals.  So far, no Cubs players have tested positive for the virus.

 

 The Blackhawks will be without Andrew Shaw for the rest of the season.  The veteran forward has decided to sit out until the 2020-2021 season as he recovers from a concussion that has sidelined him since early December.  

  The Blackhawks are also without Corey Crawford as they return to practice for the first in almost four months.  The team opened training camp yesterday without their best goaltender, who was declared unfit to play by coach Jeremy Colliton.  Per the league’s Return to Play protocols, the Hawks can’t disclose why Crawford was absent or for how long.  His availability for Chicago’s qualifying series against the Edmonton Oilers next month is uncertain.

 

The Chicago Fire FC square off against the Seattle Sounders this morning in the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando, Florida.  Chicago hasn’t played since battling to a 1-1 draw vs New England on March 7th. 

 

 The 2020 Chicago marathon is canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.  The race is being called off before runners cross the starting line for the second time in its history.   A number of other high profile marathons have been canceled, including Boston, New York, and London.

 

 The Chicago Sky is set to begin their 22-game schedule later this month. The Sky  kicks off their 2020 campaign against the Las Vegas Aces on July 26 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, the official home of the upcoming WNBA season.  The Sky ended the regular season September 11th against Dallas. 

 

The National Junior College Athletic Association announced it is moving the football season to the spring, kicking off not before March 25th, which is just a week before the football signing period will end.  Also the juco basketball season will not start until January.  The changes were made amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

 

The Washington Redskins made it official and are retiring their nickname and logo after years of backlash.  The team is still working on a new name and logo design.
