James Less

Ottawa City Commissioner James Less was the only one voting no when the City Council approved the contract for this year’s Independence Day fireworks show. He says he’s concerned about big crowds spreading the coronavirus. Other communities aren’t having fireworks shows, and Less believes people from those places will flock to Ottawa the night of July 4. There will also be less parking, because Ottawa High School’s lots will be closed.

Since Ottawa is having fireworks, Less asks everyone to be careful.

Mayor Dan Aussem thinks there won’t be a need for a big crowd downtown, because the fireworks vendor will shoot higher pyrotechnics that can be seen from farther away. But where there are a lot of people, they must be in groups no larger than 50. Each group must be at least 30 feet away from other groups.
