The Illinois Commerce Commission is set to consider a utility relief plan when it meets on Tuesday. Citizen’s Utility Board Spokesman Jim Chilsen says it’s bad for everyone if people can’t pay their utility bills.

People who can still pay their bills would shoulder the cost of mass disconnections. The proposed aid package would extend the halt on shutoffs, provide longer payment plans, and offer help to people behind on their bills. Customers with Ameren Illinois, ComEd, Illinois American Water, and Nicor Gas are among those that would be covered by the relief plan.
