St. Rep. Lance Yednock is hoping Gov. Pritzker signs a bill to grant property tax relief statewide in counties that have declared pandemic emergencies by suspending late fees. Senate Bill 685 would also suspend tax sales for four months. And it would create a one-year application deferral for those who qualify for exemptions so they don’t have to go through the annual application again right now.
Some counties, including LaSalle County, are waiving late fees through the second installment due date. It was in reaction to the pandemic shutdowns putting so many people out of work.
