Ottawa has received another grant for planting trees. The Morton Arboretum is administering grants for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Ottawa is getting $22,500. Community Development Specialist Tammi Koppen says the city lost a lot of trees to the emerald ash borer and the tornado of 2017.

The trees will be of several species.

Tree experts say diversity is important so an entire neighborhood’s trees aren’t wiped out when a disease goes through. The planting will start tomorrow (Tuesday, June 9). It will be done on Adams St. and in the 500 blocks of Marcy, Guthrie, Cornell, Chestnut, and Christie streets.
