Streator fire fighters weren’t able to keep a dog alive after rescuing it from a house fire in the 1200 block of Arthur St. Saturday night. Fire fighters used CPR and a pet mask to give it air. But it died of smoke inhalation. The fire department says the dog was inside the home in a kennel. The owners weren’t home.

The fire department wasn’t able to determine what caused the fire, but it says it’s not considered to be of suspicious origin. There’s severe fire damage to the front of the home.
