Businesses that are reopening after more than two months may need to do some plumbing care. Illinois American Water spokeswoman Karen Cotton says water that’s been sitting in pipes for so long can pick up lead from solder connections. It can also let bacteria grow undisturbed.
Cotton says it doesn’t matter what the pipes are made of or how old they are. And the advice is good even if Illinois American Water isn’t your water company.
