Morris Republican St. Sen. Sue Rezin says she couldn’t support the budget that passed the legislature for a number of reasons. She says it relies heavily on borrowing and hope that federal money will bail the state out. She says it also gives the governor unfettered control over how to spend federal coronavirus relief money.

And Rezin calls it a “shocking lack of awareness” that legislators failed to stop another pay increase while the state’s unemployment rate is at a record high. Rezin says state lawmakers have sent the wrong type of message to their constituents by giving themselves raises during the pandemic.
