One Illinois House member was so adamant about not wearing a mask, he got escorted out of the legislative session Wednesday. Not St. Rep. David Welter. The Morris Republican says he has no problem with the masks, taking temperatures before going into session, and other measures.
Welter says he thinks the governor’s plan to reopen more businesses next Friday is a step in the right direction. But he tells the Illinois House Republicans press office, it’s not nearly enough.
The legislature is supposed to send a budget to the governor by the end of May. As things stand now, the legislators are aiming to finish all the business of their much delayed and much shortened spring session in just three days. Welter isn’t sure how the budget picture is going to look.
Speaking through the House Republicans press office, Welter says he would need to see spending cuts to be comfortable with borrowing.
