The United Way of Eastern LaSalle County says it has the most emergency food and shelter money ever. The chapter based in Ottawa has $134,230 from a federal program to support other organizations. More than half the money is because of a COVID-19 relief bill. The rest is from the usual program that provides funds every year.
Local organizations that are eligible to get the money must apply by next Thursday. Executive Director Shelli Ocepek says the money will support organizations that help the elderly, families with children, and people with disabilities.
