The state’s Dead Animal Disposal Act has been updated to help farmers get rid of livestock they’ve raised but can’t take to slaughter during the pandemic. Jennifer Tirey with the Illinois Pork Producers Association says the farmer who would have moved the animal by now probably can’t keep it on the farm. A lot of the animals will be euthanized.

Among the things the Illinois Pork Producers Association is doing to help are compiling water table information for safe burial and putting together information about which landfills can take dead hogs. And it’s arranging for trailers to help haul the carcasses away from its members’ farms.
