New buffalo at Buffalo Rock

By WCMY News May 1, 2020 | 1:39 PM

A newborn buffalo is already drawing visitors at Buffalo Rock State Park. The buffalo was born Tuesday, and the park reopened Friday morning.

Yellow tape alongside the fence enclosing the buffalo is meant to keep people from touching the fence. The new mother is sometimes charging at the fence when people stand and stare too long in the southwest corner of the buffalo enclosure.

The park has reopened after being closed from the pandemic, but the water fountains and shelters are taped or covered. And the park may have to close again because of flooding on Dee Bennett Rd. in the next few days.

The big buffalo is Cocoa. The smaller one is her baby, born Tuesday, April 28, 2020, shown here three days later.
