Republican LaSalle County State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly says a Clay County Judge’s ruling that one Southern Illinois State. Rep. is exempt from the governor’s stay-at-home order only applies to that State Rep. A judge ruled Monday that Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s extension of his stay at home order to combat COVID-19 is overreach. The governor has now appealed that ruling. Donnelly thinks the governor has another option though.

Donnelly says her main priority is keeping everyone safe. She’s curious to see if companies will use the precedent set by the ruling against the stay-at-home order to open up again.

Democratic candidate for State’s Attorney Todd Martin says the government is within its legal boundaries to temporarily limit rights to protect the general public.

Martin says he’ll be interested to what new law emerges from this situation.
