With the extension of the stay-at-home order announced Thursday, some state parks are reopening to the public on May 1. Among them is the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail.
Starved Rock, Matthiessen, Buffalo Rock, and Illini state parks are not yet being reopened. A few parks being reopened are Lowden State Park and Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area. People are asked to wear face masks and practice social distancing at the parks. Boating and fishing will be allowed in groups no more than two. Visitor centers, campgrounds and playgrounds are still off limits.
