LaSalle County property tax bills may be on time this year

LaSalle County government’s ransomware problem is a bigger threat to getting property tax bills out on time than the pandemic. Three county offices are involved in preparing tax bills. The information has already come through the Assessor’s Office.

County Board Chairman Jim Olson says he got good news from County Clerk Lori Bongartz Friday about that office being on track to get its part of the work done on time. Then it’ll be up to the Treasurer’s Office to mail the bills and collect the funds.

Some counties have talked about or even decided to send bills out later than usual this year. Olson says that would take County Board action, and members would have to talk about the effect of later payments on taxing districts getting money later than usual. LaSalle County’s bills normally go out in early June with due dates in July and September.
