Oglesby water rate hike delayed again

By WCMY News Apr 10, 2020 | 12:12 PM

The Oglesby City Council voted on Wednesday to delay a planned water and sewer rate increase until May, 1. Commissioner Jason Curran is cautioning against holding off on raising the rate too long.

Curran says the city is trying for a grant to improve the water treatment plant and the city’s rates have to be at a certain level to be approved for it.

Commissioner Thomas Argubright pointed out that even when restrictions from the pandemic are eased, people likely won’t recover from the economic hit right away.

The city council already delayed the rate hike once in March for thirty days.
