Ethanol plant converts to hand sanitizer

A lot of the hand sanitizer being used in Illinois lately is being made at the Marquis ethanol plant in Hennepin. Company COO Jason Marquis says with demand for ethanol down, demand for hand sanitizer up, and chemists on staff ready to make the change, it was the right thing to do. And he says Marquis is proud to make such a vital product.

The hand sanitizer is 80% alcohol and made according to World Health Organization specs. It’s more like water than the gel in the usual home products. Marquis says there’s no corn smell. It just smells like alcohol. And you wouldn’t know it came from an ethanol plant if you weren’t told.
