The Oglesby City Council on Wednesday voted to hire Doug Hayse as interim Chief of Police.

Hayse was the former Chief of Police at the Minooka Police Department and served at the Morris Police Department, both as an officer and Chief of Police.

Oglesby City Commissioner Carrie Lijewski says Hayse comes through an Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police program to help cities find interim chiefs.

Commissioner Thomas Argubright says he would have preferred someone from the department take the job and voted no.

Commissioner Jim Cullinan felt the same way, but abstained from voting.

Commissioner Jason Curran and Mayor Dom Rivara both voted in favor of hiring Hayse. Curran says a new perspective on the department could be helpful.

Hayse will replace Chief Jim Knoblauch who is set to retire. Two other candidates interviewed by the city for the job of Police Chief, not interim, withdrew their interest.
